Important update: Upcoming changes to Viadesk's drive mounting feature

We would like to inform you of an upcoming change to our Viadesk platform that might affect your workflow. Starting November 1, we will no longer support drive mounting in Windows Explorer and other WebDAV clients. This change is guided by our commitment to enhance information security and address the declining reliability of the drive mounting feature.

What is changing?

Previously, you could manage Viadesk folders from your local computer through a synchronized shared folder. This functionality will be discontinued.

What are the alternatives?

  • Drag-and-Drop: Easily organize your documents by dragging them directly into Viadesk from your desktop or file explorer.
  • Bulk Upload: You can upload multiple documents at once using a ZIP file via our upload feature.
  • Ask for other alternatives based on the way you use Webdav

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General questions

Why are you discontinuing the drive mounting functionality?

Fellow Digitals complies with the latest information security standards to ensure the security and integrity of your data. The technology behind drive mounting in Windows Explorer is aging and becoming less compatible with the continuous security improvements we implement in our platform. Over the past few years, almost all our customers have transitioned away from using the drive mount feature in Windows Explorer, opting instead for the drag-and-drop capabilities of our web app. Additionally, the drive mounting functionality has shown limited reliability due to the evolving nature of Microsoft Windows, which impacts the consistent performance of this feature.

When will this change take effect?

The drive mounting functionality will be discontinued starting November 1. We encourage you to explore alternative methods for managing files before this date.

How will this change affect my daily workflow?

You will no longer be able to mount Viadesk intranet as a network drive in Windows Explorer and other WebDAV clients. This includes opening and saving documents directly from Windows Explorer. Instead, you will need to manage files through our web app in your browser.

Technical questions

What security requirements are not being met by the current drive mounting software?

The existing software does not meet our latest security protocols, which are designed to safeguard your data against unauthorized access and potential data breaches.

Can I choose to keep the functionality and accept the security risks?

Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to support this feature any longer. Maintaining this feature would lead to unreliable performance and potential disruptions in your workflow.

What are the alternatives for managing my files?

Use our drag-and-drop feature, bulk upload capability, or request direct access to edit Office documents within Viadesk.

Will there be any downtime during the transition?

No, there will be no downtime. The functionality will cease on November 1, and you can disconnect the drive mounts at your convenience.

Usage questions

How do I upload files through the browser interface?

  1. Log in to Viadesk through your browser.

  2. Navigate to the desired folder and select the upload option.

  3. You can drag files directly into the browser window, choose them manually, or upload them as a ZIP file for bulk processing.

Are there any file size limits when uploading through the browser?

The file size limit for uploads through the browser interface is 1 GB per document, the same as previously available through Windows Explorer.

Support and feedback
